A pair of tornadoes is just the latest in a series of rare or historic weather events to hit California.
The tornado that hit Montebello, CA was LA County’s first EF1 since January 1998.
The tornadoes came amid the state’s 12th atmospheric river event (see here: https://bit.ly/3n75LA6) since December, bringing with them epic amounts of rain and snow.
Compared to last year, cities like Los Angeles have seen a 6156% increase in rainfall since January 1.
All of that rain has helped erase areas of exceptional and severe drought that once covered most of California last year.
Researchers say climate change is making these cycles of drought and extreme rainfall more intense and severe.
